DIE SCHWARZE NARZISSE - BLACK NARCISSUS

Plagued by memories and unfulfilled dreams, five English nuns are to open a convent in the Himalayas. It is the time of British colonial rule and its crises. After the premiere, Variety magazine wrote: "This is the the story of two sex-starved women and a man. And since the women are nuns, there can be no happy ending except perhaps in the spiritual sense." (31 December 1946) The film stands out from other films of its day because of its cinematography, design, and the surprising color scheme; it won two Oscars in 1947.
