This 1931 masterpiece of interwar children's literature became a classic of realist, dramatic, actually also poetic film and includes expressionist elements and social criticism. The audacious and ingenious Berlin kids help a backwoods boy outsmart the grown-ups' world of small-time crooks. Pressburger and Wilder jointly wrote the screenplay, creating a film that has endured with their zest for storytelling and scenic presentation.
