THE MAKING OF AN ENGLISHMAN

Kevin Macdonald, Emeric Pressburger's grandson and himself an award-winning director, dedicated the documentary "The Making of an Englishman" to his grandfather. Right at the beginning, he describes him as a Hungarian Jewish refugee who always tried to be more English than the English—but above all a gentleman. Pressburger soon became one of the most successful filmmakers in England. This fascinating and touching documentary blends film excerpts with interviews with Curt Siodmak and Martin Scorsese, whom we have to thank for the restoration of "Colonel Blimp." Kevin Macdonald will introduce the film in Potsdam with his brother Andrew Macdonald, producer of "The Making of an Englishman."
