MEMOIR OF PAIN
Adaptation of Marguerite Duras's autobiographical classic Douleur.
Based on Marguerite Duras’s autobiographical classic Douleur , MEMOIR OF PAIN is about the period when she was waiting for her husband to return; he had been arrested by the Nazis during the Résistance. In desperation, and trying to find out more about his fate, she gets involved with a Nazi collaborator in a game of cat and mouse. Emmanuel Finkel finds both poetic and realistic images for the pain of not knowing and the desperation of being powerless. (Sophie Albers Ben Chamo)
Emmanuel Finkiel worked as an assistant director with Jean-Luc Godard (Nouvelle vague), Krzysztof Kieslowski (Three Colors Trilogy), and others. His first film VOYAGES (1999) was screened at Cannes, winning the César and the Prix Louis Delluc as well as other awards.
